Chaos at the Ballon d’Or awards, even before the ceremony.
The official Ballon d’Or website mistakenly published three articles naming Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal as winners of the trophy. The articles appeared an hour and a half before the ceremony began.
The organizers are in shock and have launched an investigation to establish what happened, according to Daily Mail journalist Nathan Salt.
The leak damages the reputation of one of world football’s most closely followed individual awards, which relies heavily on keeping the result secret until the very last moment.
The source of the mishap remains unknown, and it has not been confirmed whether it was a publishing error or had another cause. There is also no official explanation for why three different versions were written or who had access to them.
