The Green Bay Packers have faced a steady stream of injuries this season, and their defeat against the Detroit Lions added to their concerns. Both of Green Bay’s centers went down during the game, with Sean Rhyan exiting on the opening drive after Josh Jacobs landed on the back of his legs.
Jacob Monk took over at center after Sean Rhyan went down, but his night also ended early because of a quad injury. With the Packers facing a short turnaround, the latest update from ESPN’s Rob Demovsky suggests Green Bay may have to turn to its third string center for the next game.
“Jacob Monk (quad) goes to IR and Mekhi Becton Sr. signed to the active roster from the practice squad,” Rob Demovsky wrote in his post on X (formerly Twitter).
The Green Bay Packers depleted offensive line
With Sean Rhyan and Jacob Monk both sidelined, the Green Bay Packers turned to John Williams to handle center duties against the Detroit Lions. Williams made his NFL debut in the game, stepping into an unexpected role and doing his best to help the team despite the difficult circumstances.
“I can’t say enough about the job John Williams did, coming in in a hostile environment, handling the operation, the communication. To lose two guys at center that quickly in the game was a little terrifying, but I thought he did a really good job,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur.

With the Packers set to meet the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football, Williams has a little more time to prepare for his potential role at center. Green Bay’s offensive line has struggled to stay healthy throughout the season, leaving the team searching for a dependable combination that can provide some much needed stability.
