COLOMBO (Daily Mirror) – Residents living along the banks of the Mee Oya have been urged to remain vigilant as the Inginimitiya and Thabbowa reservoirs are releasing a combined 7,400 cubic feet of water per second into the river due to the prevailing inflows.
Irrigation Department Director (Water Management) Eng. H.M.P.S.D. Herath said two spill gates at the Inginimitiya Reservoir had been opened by two feet each, while another two gates had been opened by one foot each, releasing 3,000 cubic feet of water per second into the Mee Oya.
Meanwhile, at the Thabbowa Reservoir, located within the Mee Oya river basin, four spill gates have been opened by two feet each and another four by three feet each, releasing 4,400 cubic feet of water per second into the river.
Mr. Herath urged residents living downstream of both reservoirs and along the banks of the Mee Oya to closely monitor changes in water levels and pay attention to announcements regarding the opening of spill gates.
He also advised residents to follow instructions issued by the Irrigation Department and disaster management authorities and take necessary precautions in response to changing river conditions.
