The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary party has expressed full confidence in Sohail Afridi, Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas during a meeting, sources told ARY News.
According to sources, the meeting agreed to strengthen the parliamentary party’s role alongside the core and political committees.
Participants also criticised party members for making statements against their own party in the media and demanded that Barrister Gohar investigate those making such remarks.
Sources said Mashal Yousafzai expressed a lack of confidence in Sohail Afridi and the opposition leadership during the meeting. She reportedly said that while the party founder was ill, Sohail Afridi was more concerned about holding a long march than pursuing negotiations.
In response, Asad Qaiser said the party founder had expressed confidence in Sohail Afridi, Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas, according to sources.
Shafqat Awan also responded to Mashal Yousafzai’s remarks, urging her not to accuse party members or Sohail Afridi. He said party members were accusing their own colleagues instead of giving the government a tough time, sources added.
The majority of parliamentary party members supported continuing negotiations, according to sources.
Noor-ul-Haq Qadri reportedly repeated the word “negotiations” three times during the meeting, prompting other participants to applaud.
Earlier, Firdous Shamim Naqvi announced his resignation as additional secretary-general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying any grievance or disagreement did not prompt the decision.
Naqvi said he had not yet issued a show-cause notice to PTI senator Mishaal Yousafzai.
The development comes two days after PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan directed Firdous Shamim Naqvi to issue a notice to Mishaal Yousafzai over an alleged violation of party discipline.
PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan said Naqvi, a senior party leader, was instructed to issue the notice in response to what he described as a breach of party rules.
“I have always supported the right of everyone to express their differences of opinion on the party platform,” Gohar Khan said in his earlier statement.
