Yaxel Lendeborg delivered a standout performance as the Golden State Warriors defeated the Denver Nuggets 134-114 on Monday night. The 24-year-old rookie recorded 31 points, 12 rebounds and six assists in just his fourth NBA game. His impressive display helped Golden State secure its first victory after losing its opening three games. Lendeborg also made an early statement as one of the team’s promising young talents.

The rookie reached a significant milestone by becoming the first Warriors rookie since Wilt Chamberlain in 1959 to score 87 points across his first four games. His performance also recalled Stephen Curry’s early achievements with Golden State. Curry was the last Warriors rookie to record at least 30 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a single game, accomplishing the feat in 2010. Lendeborg’s latest outing has therefore placed him alongside notable names in the franchise’s history.
Lendeborg admitted that his performance surprised him, particularly his success at the free-throw line. “Especially this game. I had 13 free throws. That’s crazy. That’s absurd for me,” he said when asked whether he had exceeded his own expectations. His ability to score consistently and contribute on the boards helped Golden State maintain control against Denver. Moreover, his six assists highlighted his ability to create opportunities for teammates.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr praised the rookie’s strength and technical ability after the convincing victory. Kerr described Lendeborg as “strong as an ox and skilled” while discussing his impact during crucial moments. He also highlighted the coaching staff’s confidence in giving the rookie responsibility when the game reached decisive stages. Kerr said such advanced play from a rookie was extremely rare.
The victory provided a welcome boost for Golden State after its difficult start to the season. Lendeborg’s all-around contribution offered the team another offensive option while demonstrating his potential to influence games in several ways. However, the Warriors must build on this result as they prepare for their next challenge. The team will visit the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
