A northeast Calgary park is nearing the finish line on a $6.4 million upgrade, with a new playground, basketball court, and other improvements now in place.
Located at 425 18th Ave. NE, Munro Park has been under construction since spring as part of a major makeover that is expected to wrap up this fall.
According to an October 2026 update from the City of Calgary, the new playground, upgraded fitness areas, and sport court are complete, while crews continue work on pathways, irrigation, and park lighting.
After construction, the park is set to feature a nature kids’ play zone, a community plaza with space to gather, green infrastructure like bioretention (rain) gardens, a naturalized garden perimeter, many new trees, a new irrigation system, a three-on-three basketball court, additional seating, bike racks, and a water fountain.

Crews have also installed public art from Olympic Plaza, including the Centennial Grove installation and colourful Richardson’s ground squirrel sculptures.
The park will also be taking part in “Urban Rewilding,” which is moving the space away from manicured lawns. At Munro Park, you’ll be able to find native gardens and natural spaces, grasslands, pollinator gardens, and aspen groves.
The natural landscape will attract birds, butterflies, and other wildlife while improving air quality and biodiversity.
Concrete work for pathways and gathering spaces is complete, and asphalt work is expected to begin soon. Most planting is also finished, with crews continuing to install the irrigation system. The City secured additional funding to bring park lighting back into the project, with installation underway and expected to be completed soon.
The $6.4 million project is expected to wrap up in Fall 2026, although the City has not provided an exact reopening date.
