(ANSA) - TOKYO, 27 OTT - The Italy-Japan Economic and Financial Cooperation Forum was held today at the Italian Embassy in Tokyo, organized in conjunction with the visit to Japan by Giorgio Mulè, Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies. The event brought together institutions and professionals from the financial sector of both countries to discuss investment tools and prospects, with the initiative promoted by the embassy in collaboration with the ICE office in Tokyo, the Bank of Italy, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, and SACE. The proceedings were opened by Italian Ambassador Mario Vattani and Japanese Deputy Minister of Finance Atsushi Mimura. The roundtable discussions included top executives from Japanese public financial institutions such as the JFSA, JETRO, JBIC, and NEXI, as well as representatives from major banking groups, including MUFG Bank, SMBC, Nomura, and Crédit Agricole. Private equity firms were also present, including the FSI Fund and Investindustrial. In total, more than 50 representatives from the banking, insurance, and asset management sectors participated, along with major industrial groups.
The program was divided into three sessions. The first session focused on the macroeconomic landscape of the two countries; the second on financial and insurance instruments to support businesses; and the third on investment opportunities, both bilateral and in third countries. The organizers’ stated goal was to define new co-investment strategies in the Italian and Japanese markets.
In his remarks, Vattani described the economic and financial dialogue as “a fundamental pillar” of the Special Strategic Partnership between Rome and Tokyo, at a time he characterized as one of “profound transformation of global markets.” According to the ambassador, the participation of high-profile institutions and operators attests to “the strength of the diplomacy of growth” pursued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian economic system. The forum, he explained, provided an opportunity to present to Japanese partners and Italian companies the tools available to support investments, commercial opportunities, and industrial synergies. The meeting is part of the initiatives marking the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Japan, which will be celebrated in 2026.
