Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has said that red and orange weather alerts remain in effect as moderate to heavy thunderstorms continue to sweep across several Saudi regions on Monday, bringing heavy rainfall and the risk of flash floods.
According to the weather department, persons and commuters in the warned areas have been exhorted to be extremely cautious as people face active winds, hail, and full horizontal visibility.
An intense weather system has raised a red alert- level warning for Jazan- as the region faces an intense and dangerous downpour along with high winds, hail and areas of flooding.
Elsewhere in the kingdom, orange alerts have been declared in the Asir and Makkah regions, where forecasted heavy rains are also expected to be accompanied by severe thunderstorms, with high waves and unstable conditions along parts of the Makkah coast.
Outside these six regions, the NCM added that rainstorms along with winds that can stir up dust and reduce visibility will also hit parts of Al Baha, Madinah, Al Qassim, Hail, Tabuk, Al- Jouf, the Northern Borders and Riyadh, while expect to experience damp weather and fog in the morning hours.
While the Kingdom continues to be subjected to these capricious weather conditions, local municipalities and security authorities are remaining on alert to prevent severe disruptions to the region’s daily activities and conditions.
High temperatures are expected to reach a high of 38°C in Makkah, with coastal areas being expected to experience a dramatic increase in humidity levels, notably in Dammam and Jeddah, resulting in a damp climate behind the thunderstorms.
Citizens are advised to follow official updates from the National Center of Meteorology, follow public safety notices and avoid flood prone valleys until the situation improves.
