Residents across more than 80 Nairobi estates are bracing for a three-day water outage beginning late Monday night, after Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd announced an emergency shutdown of a key supply pipeline.

The interruption takes effect on Monday, 26 October 2026, at 11:59 pm and is expected to last until Thursday, 29 October 2026, at 11:59 pm.
This stems from emergency repair works on the NCT–Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete pipeline being carried out by the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA).
Managing Director Martin Nang'ole, in a statement released by Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd, urged affected customers to use whatever water they had stored as carefully as possible while the repair works were being completed.
"We appeal to our customers for indulgence and urge them to use their available water sparingly as we work towards restoring the supply. Any inconvenience is highly regretted," the notice stated.
Which areas will be affected?
The shutdown will affect a wide sweep of the city, cutting across some of Nairobi's most densely populated and high-profile zones.
Among the areas facing disruption are Riverside, Lavington, Kileleshwa, and Kilimani, alongside Ngong Road, Kibera, Woodley, and Adams Arcade.
Upper Hill residents, including those near Kenyatta National Hospital and Nairobi Hospital, are also on the affected list.
Further south, Langata estates including Uhuru Gardens, Moi Langata Barracks, and several civil service housing units will be without supply during the same period.
Nairobi West, Madaraka, and Wilson Airport environs fall within the affected zone, as do residents along Popo Road and the KEBS and NEMA areas.
In the north and west of the city, the outage will be felt in Karen, Parklands, Westlands, Brookside, and sections of Lower Waiyaki Way.
Diplomatic areas are not spared either, with UNEP, the U.S. Embassy, Kihingo Estate, and the International School environs all included in the notice.
Additional areas such as Ngara, City Park, Forest Road, Upper General Mathenge, Kabarsiran, and Lower Raphta Road round out a list that spans the breadth of the city's residential and institutional landscape.
Residents in the affected zones are advised to store adequate water before the shutdown begins on Monday night.
Another water supply outage
This comes after an earlier emergency water supply interruption in mid-October, which lasted approximately 24 hours following the shutdown of the NCT–Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete pipeline for urgent repairs ordered by the Athi Water Works Development Authority.
The affected areas included Riverside, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Kilimani, parts of Ngong Road, Kibera, Nairobi West, Gigiri, Parklands, Ngara and Mbagathi Ridge.
Nairobi Water apologised for the inconvenience and urged customers to remain patient as crews work to restore normal supply.
