Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) are strengthening coordination to combat cybercrime and improve online safety.
The initiative followed a meeting between Communications and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid and National Police Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto at police headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Hafid warned of evolving digital threats, including data trafficking, online fraud, illegal online gambling, pornography, cyberbullying, misinformation and hoaxes.
She said the ministry could not tackle these challenges alone, stressing the need for cooperation with law enforcement agencies, particularly the police.
"Collaboration with Polri is essential to coordinate preventive measures and law enforcement efforts," the minister said.
She also praised Polri's efforts to combat transnational online gambling operations and crack down on interference with digital infrastructure, including base transceiver stations.
"We are ready to collaborate and strengthen coordination with Polri, particularly under Suyudi's leadership," she said.
Suyudi stressed the need for a cautious approach to digitalization amid rapid technological advances.
He said Polri and the ministry were committed to swiftly addressing cybercrime to protect the public in the digital space.
"We must act quickly against crimes that cause public concern, including online fraud, online gambling and romance scams, to protect national security," he said.
He added that both institutions would intensify efforts to curb misinformation and hoaxes, expressing hope that their cooperation would help create a safer digital environment.
