By Zoila Palma: The People’s United Party (PUP) is mourning the passing of Renan Briceño Sr. of Orange Walk Town, remembering him as a successful entrepreneur, community figure, and dedicated supporter of the party.
The PUP said Briceño was “a warm, kindhearted and compassionate person.”
Briceño built a diverse business career, beginning with a meat shop in Orange Walk and later establishing tortilla factories in Dangriga and Belize City in the early 1980s. In 1988, he opened RB’s Texaco Gas Station at the corner of Central American Boulevard and Cemetery Street, operating the business until 2010. He later entered the telecommunications industry with his family, launching Smart under Speednet Communications Limited in August 2005. The company continues to operate.
Beyond business, Briceño was passionate about music, karaoke, billiards, and football. He promoted RB’s Karaoke and founded TLC Band in 2019, offering guidance and advice to its members. He also coached and played on several local football and billiard teams in Belize City, Orange Walk, and Dangriga.
The PUP said Briceño’s passing leaves a significant void within the party, particularly in Orange Walk Central, where he was valued for his advice, support, and organizational skills.
“The country has lost another giant,” the party stated.
Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde, Party Chairman Henry Usher, the PUP National Executive, and the party extended condolences to his family, including Prime Minister John Briceño.
