Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has received a Canada-based Nigerian journalist, Chief Olufemi Shodunke, at his residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Shodunke, a former Deputy Editor at the defunct Nigerian Compass newspaper, is currently in Nigeria for official and personal missions.
A photograph from the visit on Sunday showed Obasanjo warmly holding Shodunke’s hand as they posed together.
Shodunke, who previously worked at the National Concord, The Comet and The Nation newspapers, covered the Obasanjo administration, its policies and political developments during his journalism career in Nigeria before he fled to Canada after escaping assassination attempts.
Through his analytical articles and reports, the Canada based journalist examined Obasanjo’s influence on national politics, his relationship with opposition governments and his role in Ogun State’s political development.
The journalist, who is the Baaroyin of Igbeinland and former Chairman, Correspondents Chapel of Ogun NUJ, has participated in cultural and community events in Abeokuta, including activities associated with the annual Lisabi Festival.
His connection with Obasanjo also extends to leadership and community development platforms as Shodunke had served as the President of Olumo Progressive Association Canada Inc, Toronto and National PRO, Egba National Association USA and Canada.
He is also a member of the Oodua Progressive Union, Canada Chapter where he was the maiden Public Relations Officer.
Obasanjo serves as Global Patron of the Leadership Empowerment International Conference, where Shodunke was last year conferred with a honorary doctorate degree in recognition of his contributions to journalism and community development.
