Espart’s injury comes as Barcelona seek to recover from their first defeat of the season, having lost 2-1 to their arch-rivals at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The result ended Barcelona’s unbeaten start to the campaign and handed Real Madrid a significant victory in the latest edition of Spanish football’s biggest rivalry.
The defender’s projected seven-week absence could see him miss several fixtures as Barcelona navigate their domestic and European commitments. His return will depend on his recovery during the rehabilitation period.
