ALOR STAR: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) officer killed in a boat collision off Perlis last night was deeply committed to his duties, his wife said.
Sajaratul Akmal Abdul Shukor, 41, said her husband, Mohd Roshaimi Mohd Ridzuan, 41, was always ready to serve regardless of the time or weather, even reporting for duty on his days off.
"He loved his job and would report for duty even on his days off. Sometimes, he would wake up at 2 or 3am to join an operation. I was used to it," she told reporters at the Forensic Department of Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) here.
She said she understood the demands of his job with the Intelligence Unit at the Kedah and Perlis Maritime Headquarters.
Recalling their final conversation, Sajaratul Akmal said her husband had asked her to pray for his safety before he left for an operation involving undocumented migrants.
"He asked me to pray for his safety before the operation, which he had told me about two to three days earlier.
"He often spoke that way, so I never imagined anything bad would happen," she said.
She said she was shocked and devastated by the news, particularly because of its impact on their youngest child.
Mohd Roshaimi's remains were expected to be buried at the Muslim cemetery of Masjid Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah in Kuala Nerang tonight.
The incident occurred at about 11pm last night when an MMEA boat carrying five personnel collided with a concrete structure off Kuala Sungai Padang, near Kuala Perlis, while pursuing a vessel suspected of carrying undocumented migrants.
Three other sailors were injured. -- BERNAMA
