KWAZULU-NATAL — Jacinta Ngobese has publicly criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa, accusing him of failing to deal with several issues in the country.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the March and March leader alleged that Ramaphosa's priorities were misaligned, accusing him of failing to respond to the killings and dumping of women in Ekurhuleni while reportedly unwell, only to recover in time to campaign for the African National Congress (ANC).
Ngobese-Zuma also slammed the swift mobilisation of law enforcement resources against illegal immigration protesters. She claimed police from across the country, along with secret agents and intelligence operatives, were deployed to Moore Road to detain activists rather than address foreign nationals or engage their governments.
Ngobese-Zuma calls Ramaphosa's approach 'dictatorial'
The March and March leader also argued that Ramaphosa consistently avoided direct engagement with citizens on their concerns, instead resorting to extreme measures including calling in the army and what she described as the revival of apartheid-era laws.
"A President who cares more about protecting infrastructure and relationships that are beneficial to him than his own people? That is not a leader at all, just someone itching to be a dictator," she wrote.
South Africans divided over the criticism
The post drew sharply divided responses online.
@Rhulani98126442 questioned:
"So you want him to watch when a repeat of 2021 unrest is underway? Or you want him to clap hands when marchers become violent and beat up people in the streets?"
@SimandManzini cautioned:
"Going against the President is not a good idea."
@Mandisan_SA claimed:
"He was playing golf after the GBV in Kempton Park. He is an oppressor."
@thatjolistoguy said:
"I think the man is managed badly."
@Indepentdepend1 stated:
"The problem is not with the president, but the voters who vote for the wrong political parties that support illegal immigration."
