ZAMBIA’s 2027 national budget will now be presented on Nov. 6, Vice President Mutale Nalumango announced Tuesday.
The budget had been scheduled to be presented to Parliament on Oct. 30 by Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane.
Nalumango told lawmakers the one-week postponement would allow the government to consider additional measures currently being worked on. She did not specify what the measures are.
“The 2027 National Budget won’t be presented this week in Parliament but it will be presented next week on 6 November, 2026,” Nalumango said.
The delay comes days after Parliament approved President Hakainde Hichilema’s plan to realign government ministries, increasing the number from 24 to 30. The restructuring includes splitting the Ministry of Energy into the Ministry of Electricity and the Ministry of Petroleum, and dividing the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry into the Ministry of Trade and Exports and the Ministry of Industry.
Analysts say the new ministerial structure is likely to affect budget allocations for the coming fiscal year.
The 2027 budget is the first under the government’s Grow Zambia agenda and is expected to focus on economic growth, job creation, debt sustainability and social spending ahead of general elections next year.
Musokotwane is now scheduled to present the budget to Parliament on Nov. 6.
