A Dhaka court on Monday issued a summons asking actress Tanjin Tisha to appear before it in a case that accuses her of threatening a fashion designer to withdraw a previous separate case involving an alleged Tk75,000 saree fraud.
Fashion designer Sanaya Anam Wafiqah Chowdhury filed the case yesterday in the court of Dhaka Executive Magistrate Mahbub-ul-Alam.
After recording the plaintiff’s statement, the court directed the accused to appear on 23 November and show cause, according to the complainant’s lawyer, Shubhra Sinha Rony.
According to the case, the plaintiff filed a case against the actress at Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on 27 November 2025.
She alleged that, following the filing of the case, the actress threatened her on several occasions and warned that she would suffer harm if she did not withdraw the proceedings.
The complaint also alleges that, earlier, on 7 November 2025, the accused threatened the complainant over the phone. She also allegedly spoke of arranging a meeting involving the Detective Branch (DB) police.
The plaintiff claimed that, after the court ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the original case, the investigating officer submitted a biased report. Yesterday, she filed a no-confidence petition challenging the report.
The court accepted the petition and ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a further investigation, according to the complaint. The plaintiff also alleges that the actress became angry after the investigation report was published in various media outlets.
She claimed that unidentified individuals subsequently threatened her, demanding that she withdraw the case and warning that she would not be allowed to remain in Bangladesh if she refused.
Saying she feared for her safety, the plaintiff said she approached her local police station to file a case but was advised to seek the court’s intervention instead.
