Adam Brody candidly shared that he still beats himself up over the way he proposed to his wife, Leighton Meester, more than a decade later.
The “O.C.” alum recalled popping the question in 2013 while discussing engagements on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast with his “Nobody Wants This” co-stars on Monday.
“I’ll spare the details,” he said. “However, rest assured, it was not as romantic as it should have been.”
“The only thing romantic about it was the speed,” Brody, 46, explained, referring to how he asked the “Gossip Girl” alum to marry him after less than a year of dating.
“I proposed pretty quickly into our relationship. We got married fast, but other than that, it was very pedestrian,” he admitted.
The actor played coy about the details, as Shepard, 51, jokingly asked if he proposed at a Taco Bell.
“At the time, you’re like, whatever, but you’re going to tell that story the rest of your life,” Brody continued. “So my advice: Do it, not even just for the moment, but for the story that you’re going to tell forever.”
The “Ready or Not” star admitted that he does “kick” himself “a little,” saying Meester “deserved a little more.”
Brody and the actress met on the set of the 2011 Julian Farino-directed film “The Oranges” and started dating in 2013.
They quickly got engaged in November 2013 and secretly tied the knot in February 2014, making their first appearance as husband and wife at the 2014 Tonys that June.
The couple later welcomed their daughter, Arlo, in 2015 and a son, whose name hasn’t been revealed, in 2020.
Over the years, Brody and Meester have gushed about each other, with the “Jennifer’s Body” star giving his wife a special shout-out when he won a 2025 Critics Choice Award for his role in “Nobody Wants This.”
“Thank you for sharing this life with me and this journey with me,” he told Meester. “Thank you for our family. I love you with all my heart.”
The “Good Girls Go Bad” singer, meanwhile, shared that the secret to their long-lasting relationship was “really” liking each other while speaking to People in January.
“It’s so funny, because the other night somebody asked me that, and I was like, ‘I wish I had the answer,’ [but] I think just liking each other, and getting along is a big part of it,” she said.
