The Dallas Cowboys may have solved Vic Fangio. Entering the Week 7 contest on Monday Night Football, the prevailing storyline was the fact that Brian Schottenheimer's suddenly struggling offense was going to have to face the strength of a struggling Eagles' team, the vaunted defense. With the Eagles being a MASH unit on offense, the Cowboys defense was set to face yet another backup QB.
Both teams entered the contest with 2-4 records and losing streaks that had each of their fanbases in miserable condition. The Eagles hadn't lost five games in a row in a decade, but there was nothing they could do on Monday night. The teams traded blows in the first half, but Dallas pulled away in the second half, earning their third victory of the season, 38-21.
The win chased away a maddening streak of going 1-7-1 in their last nine primetime appearances.
The Cowboys had 275 yards at halftime and finished with 416 yards as the put the clamps on Philadelphia in the second half. The team went 8 for 13 on third downs and converted a fourth down as well. They also committed zero turnovers, scoring on seven of their nine drives.
The last time QB Dak Prescott faced off against Fangio, he passed for 354 yards and two scores in a 24-21 win. This time, Prescott only had to complete 15 passes for 212 yards. He tossed three touchdowns to go along with RB Javonte Williams' career high of 155 yards on the ground.
Williams scored the final points of the game, on the heels of sensational scoring grabs from CeeDee Lamb (5 catches, 74 yards) and George Pickens (4 catches 57 yards. Lamb added a second touchdown in the second half, continuing his incredible season.
On defense, the Cowboys got LB DeMarvion Overshown back for the first time since a Week 2 hamstring injury. Overshown played perhaps his best game of his career with an interception, TFL, a second pass deflection and six tackles.
Quinnen Williams and Donovan Ezeiruaku checked in with second-half sacks to help stymie Tanner McKee and the Eagles' offense. Saquon Barkley returned in limited action, but with a balky hamstring he could only manage nine touches on the game.
The win allowed Dallas to keep pace with the surprising first-place New York Giants after their overtime win on Sunday. At 3-4, the team is playing catchup to the 4-2-1 Giants. Dallas next hosts Arizona in Week 8.
