The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly made a major move to strengthen their offensive line, acquiring one of the NFL's most accomplished guards ahead of the trade deadline.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Indianapolis Colts have agreed to trade eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to Seattle.
The move ends Nelson's eight-year tenure in Indianapolis and gives the Seahawks an immediate upgrade as they look to defend their Super Bowl championship.
Nelson, 30, has been among the NFL's most dominant interior offensive linemen since the Colts selected him sixth overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. The former Notre Dame standout earned Pro Bowl honors in each of his first eight seasons and established himself as a cornerstone of Indianapolis' offensive line.
He has continued performing at an elite level in 2026, entering the week without allowing a sack this season, according to Pro Football Focus.
For Seattle, the acquisition addresses one of the team's biggest concerns.
The Seahawks have struggled to establish consistency in their rushing attack, while quarterback Sam Darnold has faced significant pressure behind an offensive line that has experienced difficulties in pass protection.
Nelson's arrival could provide an immediate boost in both areas, giving Seattle an experienced blocker capable of improving its offensive production. However, the trade also represents a significant turning point for Indianapolis.
The Colts have endured a disappointing 2-5 start, recently firing general manager Chris Ballard as questions surrounding the franchise's direction continue to grow.
With Nelson playing on an expiring contract, Indianapolis faced the possibility of losing its longtime star in free agency after the season. Instead, the organization reportedly elected to move him now in hopes of securing valuable draft capital.
The decision is particularly significant considering the Colts do not currently own their 2027 first-round selection following last season's trade for cornerback Sauce Gardner.
Nelson's departure could also signal that Indianapolis is willing to make additional moves before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
Other veterans, including defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, have reportedly attracted interest from teams around the league.

For Seattle, the message is considerably different.
Rather than waiting for its offensive line to improve, the organization has moved aggressively to address a weakness with one of the league's most proven players.
And for Nelson, the trade provides an opportunity to pursue another championship with a Seahawks team determined to remain among the NFL's elite.
