The2026 Ballon d'Or reaches its big night surrounded by anticipation and controversy. The emergence of information that seemed to reveal part of the results on channels linked to the award has triggered a flood of speculation on social media and in sports media. These are three news stories announcing Kane, Mbappé and Lamine as winners, each in one.
The news, which is still active, has spread like wildfire and gone viral on social media, "confirming" these three footballers as the overwhelming favorites to win the award that will be presented tonight at around 23:00.
In all the articles, reference was made to their numbers from last season and a review of each of their careers until they presumably achieved the golden award that accredits them as the best player of the 2025-26 season.
"A record-breaking World Cup and another flurry of goals for Real Madrid have earned Kylian Mbappé his first Ballon d'Or," read the article about the Madrid player, or "at just 19 years old, Lamine Yamal has become the youngest winner in the history of the Ballon d'Or, which was created in 1956," said the article that named the Barcelona player as the winner.
According to Daily Mail Sport, the organizers are in shock and are conducting a thorough investigation into what happened in order to take severe measures against those responsible.
In fact, minutes later, the pages in question have been deleted by the Ballon d'Or organization.
