The Philadelphia Eagles entered the 2026 NFL season with championship aspirations, but seven games in, the franchise is facing a completely different conversation about its future.
Philadelphia has climbed to No. 6 in the updated 2027 NFL draft order entering Week 8, according to Tankathon, after Monday night's 38-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys extended its losing streak to five games. The Eagles are 2-5, joining several struggling franchises near the top of the projected first-round order. The Eagles entered the season believing they had enough talent to compete for another NFC East championship, but injuries, inconsistent quarterback play, and defensive struggles have contributed to one of the league's most disappointing starts. Philadelphia has not won since Week 2, and its latest defeat highlighted how quickly a season can unravel when injuries and poor execution become recurring problems.
If the season ended today, Philadelphia would hold its highest first-round pick since selecting DeVonta Smith with No. 10 overall in 2021. The potential opportunity to select another premium prospect could become increasingly important for a franchise facing questions about its offensive line, pass rush, and long-term roster construction.
Updated 2027 NFL draft order: Top 10 picks
Here is the current projected order entering Week 8, according to the Tankathon snapshot.
| Pick | Team | Record |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Los Angeles Chargers | 0-6 |
| 2 | Tennessee Titans | 1-6 |
| 3 | Miami Dolphins | 1-5 |
| 4 | Washington Commanders | 1-4-1 |
| 5 | Houston Texans | 2-5 |
| 6 | Philadelphia Eagles | 2-5 |
| 7 | Indianapolis Colts (pick owned by Jets) | 2-5 |
| 8 | Arizona Cardinals | 2-5 |
| 9 | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | 2-5 |
| 10 | New York Jets | 2-5 |
Philadelphia is one of seven teams in the current top 10 with two or fewer victories. The Eagles are also among five teams sitting at 2-5, with strength of schedule determining the order between those clubs.
At .478, Philadelphia's strength of schedule places it ahead of Indianapolis, Arizona, Tampa Bay and the Jets in the draft standings, while Houston holds the No. 5 selection with a lower strength of schedule. The Eagles' current position could change significantly over the next several weeks, especially with so many teams separated by narrow margins.
Eagles' losing streak changes the conversation
Philadelphia's five-game losing streak has raised legitimate questions about whether the franchise has enough healthy talent to compete for a playoff berth. Jalen Hurts has missed time, Saquon Barkley has dealt with injuries, and the offensive line has changed significantly after Lane Johnson's retirement.
The Eagles have also struggled to consistently pressure opposing quarterbacks, while the defense has had problems against the run and in the secondary. Dallas exploited several of those weaknesses Monday night, rushing for 204 yards and scoring 18 unanswered points after Philadelphia briefly took the lead in the third quarter.
Those problems could eventually influence Philadelphia's approach to the 2027 draft. General manager Howie Roseman has consistently invested in premium positions, particularly along the offensive and defensive lines, and selecting near the top of the first round could offer another way to address those areas.
The Eagles are not yet at the point where their season should be viewed solely through the draft, but the standings illustrate how much ground they have lost through seven games. Philadelphia needs a significant turnaround to reenter the NFC playoff conversation, and each additional defeat would increase the likelihood of a premium first-round selection.
What should Philadelphia target in the 2027 NFL draft?
Offensive tackle could become a priority depending on how the Eagles evaluate Markel Bell and their long-term plans following Johnson's retirement. Jordan Mailata remains an established presence on the left side, but Philadelphia must determine whether it has a dependable solution at right tackle beyond this season.
The defensive front also deserves consideration, especially as Philadelphia struggles to consistently pressure opposing quarterbacks and control the run. Adding another explosive edge rusher or disruptive interior defender could help defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, whose unit has not played to expectations.
Philadelphia could also evaluate cornerback, wide receiver, and quarterback depending on how the remainder of the season unfolds. Rookie Makai Lemon has shown encouraging development, while the team's quarterbacks' struggles and availability have raised questions about the offense's direction.
A top-six selection would give Roseman considerable flexibility, whether the Eagles choose an immediate starter, pursue a trade, or use the pick to address a premium position. However, the team's priority remains ending its losing streak and evaluating whether its current roster can produce a meaningful second-half turnaround.
The Eagles are 2-5 and facing growing pressure to salvage their season. For a franchise accustomed to competing for division titles and postseason success, holding one of the first six picks in the 2027 NFL draft is an unexpected development that could have significant implications for its future.
