As RAMageddon rages on, brands are making tough choices including price hikes and refocused lineups. According to a new report, Samsung plans to cut production for millions of entry-level and mid-range Galaxy phones.
ETNews reports that Samsung is cutting production of Galaxy A smartphones by “approximately 20%.” The cuts are being made to reallocate those resources for Samsung’s flagship products, as those pricier products are more likely to make a profit in current market conditions. For mid-range devices, inflated costs of memory and chipsets now make up around half of the overall cost of production.
This 20% cut to Galaxy A devices is said to account for roughly 10 million units, with further cuts planned going into 2027 (translated):
Component orders for the fourth quarter have decreased by about 20% compared to the production plan at the beginning of the year. On an annual basis, this represents a decrease of about 10 million units. The situation is critical as Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Communications (MX) division is suffering a loss this year… The stance is to cut Galaxy A series production by more than 10% next year as well.
While Samsung does make less on its Galaxy A series, the company’s entry-level and mid-range devices make up a huge share of Samsung’s overall sales. The best-selling Samsung phones are almost always entry-level or mid-range Galaxy A devices, though the Galaxy S26 series finally broke that record earlier this year.
