It hasn't even been a full week into the 2026-27 NBA season, and there's already been a scary injury scene.
On Sunday night, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams suffered a gruesome injury in the final minutes of the game versus the Los Angeles Clippers.
After attempting a dunk, Williams fell awkwardly on his left ankle. He remained on the ground while trainers came out onto the court to assess him. Williams was eventually put on a stretcher and carted off the court. Thankfully, though, Williams threw up two thumbs up to the packed Paycom Center filled with worried fans. The crowd chanted "J-Dub!" as he left the court.
It was a difficult watch to see Williams injured and struggle on the court in the aftermath. Williams's teammates watched nervously from the sidelines as trainers assisted the forward. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was specifically emotional watching his teammate suffer from the pain. SGA was caught wiping away some tears when Williams was put on the stretcher.
When speaking to the Thunder broadcast after the game, Gilgeous-Alexander was still fighting back tears.
"I just feel bad for him. Nothing more than that," Gilgeous-Alexander said. When asked how the Thunder will respond, he said: "We don't have no choice. It's what we signed up for. It's obviously going to be tougher on a player like that. But, he's not gone forever. He's going to be back better than ever, we know it. We just gotta hold the fort down until he comes back."

There isn't any updates regarding Williams's injury quite yet. However, based on how he reacted and how he had to be helped off the court, there's a chance Williams will miss some time with his ankle injury. The question now is how much time will he miss? Hopefully Williams avoided a season-ending injury, especially as the Thunder are only three games into the season.
Williams did play 32 minutes on Sunday night, recording eight points, five assists, two rebounds and two steals. Oklahoma City remains undefeated after the 108-101 win.
