Zambezi District Commissioner Simeon Machayi has urged parents and caregivers to ensure that every eligible child receives essential healthcare services during Child Health Week.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ advocacy meeting in Zambezi today, Mr Machayi said the government remained committed to delivering essential child healthcare services directly to communities.
He said the campaign is aimed to ensure that every eligible child, regardless of geographical location or socio-economic background, accessed essential healthcare to prevent childhood illnesses and reduce mortality rates.
Mr Machayi urged healthcare personnel deployed to health facilities and outreach posts to perform their duties with humility, dedication and professional integrity.
He cautioned health practitioners against displaying superiority towards members of the public, reminding civil servants that citizens deserved to be served with empathy and respect.
Meanwhile, Acting District Health Director Kampinga Lyangenda said previous child health campaigns in the district had recorded high success rates due to strong multi-sectoral collaboration and community support.
Mr Lyangenda said healthcare personnel could not achieve the campaign targets in isolation, stressing that collective community involvement was essential in addressing vaccine hesitancy and reaching hard-to-access rural communities.
“Overcoming vaccine resistance and reaching isolated communities requires a unified stakeholder effort,” Mr. Lyangenda said.
Mr Lyangenda disclosed that the district was targeting 23,982 children across all 40 health facilities.
During the week-long campaign running from October 26 to 31, 2026, health personnel will provide free services, including routine and catch-up immunisation, Vitamin A supplementation, deworming, nutritional screening, growth monitoring, health education and HPV vaccinations for adolescent girls.
