Simon is a Computer Science BSc graduate who has been writing about technology since 2014, and using Windows machines since 3.1. After working for an indie game studio and acting as the family's go-to technician for all computer issues, he found his passion for writing and decided to use his skill set to write about all things tech.
Since beginning his writing career, he has written for many different publications such as WorldStart, Listverse, and MakeTechEasier. However, after finding his home at MakeUseOf in February 2019, he would eventually move on to its sister site, XDA, to bring the latest and greatest in Windows, Linux, and DIY electronics.

- Nostalgex turns your Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby libraries into a 90s-style TV guide.
- It offers 130+ themed channels, seasonal blocks and a scrolling guide with posters and ratings.
- Try it in your browser or the App Store to browse your media libraries like it's on CRT.
The newest AI trend appears to be siccing Claude onto TVs and having it decompile it to do all sort of things the user wants (although there are some reports claiming that Anthropic has added safeguards to prevent this). Now, it appears people are skipping the "own a TV" part and are just making Claude-made TV guides for their digital libraries. Someone has made this delightful 90s-inspired TV guide that lets you go through your library like it's live TV.

Revive the ancient arcane practice of "channel surfing"
Over on the ClaudeAI subreddit, user chadMueller shared what they and Claude have been cooking up. It's called "Nostalgex," and it aims to bring back the days before streaming services, when you had to flick through channels until you find something you like. Nostalgex does this by gathering all of your media on Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby, and collates them into one big lineup for you to peruse through.
Here's how chadMueller describes the project:
- 130+ channels built from your own library, like Saturday morning cartoons, sitcoms and 80s action
- seasonal blocks: SCREAM for October, and a holiday lineup with Christmas specials and a Turkey Day channel
- a real scrolling guide with ratings and posters, plus a retro mode with scanlines
If you'd like to check it out yourself, head over to the Nostalgex website, where you can give it a try in your browser. There's also an Apple App Store version if you want to try it there instead.
