ⓘ Baseus
Most chargers are content to sit quietly in a wall socket, but Baseus has other ideas. Its new Hurricane 3 delivers up to 160W through three USB-C ports, complete with active cooling and a display that keeps tabs on charging. It is now available in China for around $56.
Phone chargers are not exactly known for their exciting features, but Baseus is giving the humble power brick a bit more personality. The company's new Hurricane 3 160W GaN charger has gone on sale in China, following preorders that opened on October 23. Priced at CNY 399 (approximately $56), it packs three USB-C ports, a cooling fan, and a surprisingly detailed 1.8-inch TFT display.
Each USB-C port can deliver up to 140W on its own, with a combined output of 160W when charging multiple devices. Baseus also includes its PowerTune 3.0 technology, which checks power distribution every three seconds and adjusts it depending on what's connected. Support for USB PD AVS and Xiaomi's 120W charging protocol is also included.
Things get more interesting on the cooling side. Rather than relying entirely on passive heat dissipation, the Hurricane 3 uses a centrifugal fan spinning at up to 12,500 rpm, paired with a 2,584 mm² graphene cooling layer. Baseus claims this setup can reduce temperatures by around 15°C compared with conventional chargers. There's even a quiet mode that switches off the fan when needed.
The built-in display shows charging power, temperature, and estimated charging time, while also producing a report at the end of each session. It's probably more information than most people need from a charger, but it's a neat touch nonetheless. Baseus also claims the Hurricane 3 can maintain full-power operation for 72 hours without throttling. That remains to be independently verified, along with the company's cooling figures.
For now, the Hurricane 3 is available through JD.com in China, with no word yet on an international launch.
