Nvidia will put $3bn into Meta and work more closely with it on Muse, Meta’s personal AI agent, the two companies announced today. The money is part of the share sale Meta launched on Monday to pay for its growing AI spending.
Since then, Meta has raised the common-stock portion of the sale to $25bn from $22.5bn and priced the shares at $625 each. With a separate sale of preferred shares, Meta expects to raise up to $37.5bn in total.
When it launched the sale, Meta said Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom had together shown interest in buying up to $5bn of the shares.
The deal also runs the other way. Meta plans to use more Nvidia hardware in its data centres, including the chipmaker’s next Vera Rubin chips and Vera processors. It will also add Nvidia’s Spectrum-X networking equipment, which links the machines together.
Muse, which launched in September, can book travel, fill in forms and make purchases for its users. It runs on Meta’s own family of Muse AI models, and the two companies will now work together to make those models faster and cheaper to train and run.
They will also consider teaming up on safety. Nvidia offers OpenShell, a system for securely deploying AI agents, and Sentry, which monitors how agents behave.
“This changes how we use computers, from operating applications to working with intelligent agents,” said Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang.
“Muse is how we bring personal superintelligence to everyone,” said Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg.
Muse quickly became one of the most downloaded apps in the US, and Meta’s shares jumped 11% in a single day.
It has also run into problems, including a security flaw in its Mac app and a block from Amazon, which stopped the agent from shopping on its site.
Moreover, Nvidia said it expects the investment to go through once the usual closing conditions are met.
