In Ben Solak's weekly 'I think' column over at ESPN, one of his predictions is that the Kansas City Chiefs will make a trade for a wide receiver. And as Solak explained his reasoning, he threw out a few hypothetical trades, one of which included the Jacksonville Jaguars and Brian Thomas Jr.
"These are not sourced and were first written down on the back of a napkin," Solak wrote. "It's very likely the other teams in these hypotheticals would not even listen to deals for their wideouts. Do not yell at me on the internet about these trade proposals."
The hypothetical trade that Solak proposed was the Chiefs sending wide receiver Xavier Worthy and a 2027 third-round pick to the Jaguars for Thomas Jr.
Worthy was a first-round pick in the 2024 draft and has blazing speed, which, as Solak notes, would allow him to take over as the vertical presence in the Jaguars' offense without Thomas Jr.
"Mahomes and the Chiefs can give Thomas a chance to rediscover his 2024 form in a new zip code," Solak wrote.
Thomas Jr. has struggled to find any sort of consistent footing in the Liam Coen offense, and this season his role has continued to decrease. This includes playing just 15 total snaps in Week 6 -- with none coming in the second half -- and Thomas Jr. logging no receptions over the last two games.
At the receiver position for the Jaguars, Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers lead the way, while Josh Cameron has earned more opportunities, and we could potentially see Travis Hunter's role on offense expand. Not helping Thomas Jr. either is the Jaguars' use of heavy personnel packages.
Yet, with that said, a report from Adam Schefter said that the Jaguars have "shown no signs of engaging in trade talks" about Thomas Jr. However, teams are expected to "ramp up calls" as the trade deadline approaches.
On Monday, Coen reiterated his confidence in Thomas Jr., saying, "He's going to be able to help us make plays this week."
