Real Madrid believe Yan Diomande has another level to reach this season after the teenage winger continued his impressive development with a decisive performance against Barcelona, according to AS (h/t Madrid Xtra).
The Ivorian has become one of the most exciting additions to Jose Mourinho’s squad, with his pace, dribbling and growing influence in the final third helping justify the club’s enormous investment.
Diomande continues to impress Real Madrid
Indeed, Real Madrid expected Diomande to bring quality and attacking threat after signing him from RB Leipzig, but his progress has surprised the club.
The 19-year-old has shown that his potential extends beyond his ability to beat defenders, combining direct running with an increasingly effective contribution in possession and without the ball.
His performance against Barcelona offered another example of that development.
Diomande attempted seven dribbles and completed four, repeatedly challenging defenders and creating opportunities for Real Madrid to attack. ‘
He also made six runs and won nine duels, demonstrating his willingness to compete in a demanding El Clasico encounter.

The winger’s defensive contribution was equally notable, as he recorded six recoveries and won two tackles.
Furthermore, his influence was not limited to individual statistics, either, as his run and assist helped create the opening goal scored by Kylian Mbappe.
Real Madrid transfer fee looks justified
Diomande arrived from RB Leipzig in a deal worth €125 million, with a further €15 million payable through add-ons.
If all the bonuses are triggered, the transfer would represent an even greater financial commitment from Real Madrid.
Such an investment naturally brings substantial expectations, particularly for a young player still developing his game.
However, Diomande’s early performances are giving the club reasons to believe the fee could prove worthwhile.
So far this season, the forward has recorded three goals and four assists in 13 appearances this season.

While these are not extraordinary numbers, Real Madrid have also won all five La Liga matches in which he has started, a run that strengthens the case for giving him a more prominent role.
Those results do not establish that Diomande alone has driven the team’s success, but they illustrate how his presence has coincided with a productive spell for the side.
Diomande has the potential to become a major player
The most encouraging aspect of Diomande’s development is that he still appears to have room to improve.
His ability to attack defenders gives Real Madrid a valuable outlet, while his growing end product suggests he can become more than an unpredictable winger who relies on pace and individual skill.
Maintaining that progress will require consistency, better decision-making in the final third and continued tactical development.
For now, the early signs are encouraging. Diomande is contributing in decisive moments, working hard defensively and delivering performances against elite opposition.
If he continues on this trajectory, Real Madrid may have secured a player capable of becoming central to their long-term plans.
