The International Press Institute (IPI) said that the change of regime in Serbia provides an opportunity to strengthen media freedom.
“The International Press Institute (IPI) and its partners in the Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR) see this result as a crucial opportunity to strengthen media freedom and pluralism after years of authoritarian drift,” a statement saidand added that the post-election period offers a change to address those challenges following years of mounting pressure on independent journalism, political interference, and attacks against media professionals.
“Whether this opportunity leads to lasting change will depend on the commitment to accountability of the future government and Serbian institutions for past violations, independent institutions, and structural reforms that protect journalists and editorial independence, regardless of who holds political power,” IPI said.
