THE body of a 14-year-old boy who was reported missing after a crocodile attack in Ulu Sungai Plaie, near Sebuyau, Sarawak, was found about 800 metres from Kampung Tuba jetty at 8pm yesterday.
The discovery of Mohd Nordin Mohd Othman followed a report from a Kampung Tuba resident who spotted a crocodile apparently carrying something in its jaws at about 6pm.
The resident was returning home after visiting the victim’s family in Kampung Plaie when the crocodile was sighted, according to a spokesperson for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s operations centre.
Villagers returned to the location at about 8pm and found the boy’s body, which was believed to have been regurgitated by the crocodile, the spokesperson said.
The victim’s grandfather, Dana Randi, identified him. An initial examination found that several body parts were missing and that the body had bite marks and other injuries.
Police took the body to Simunjan Hospital for further action.
The boy was attacked by a crocodile at about 5.30pm on Monday while helping to load oil palm fruit onto a boat at Sungai Plaie in Ulu Sebuyau. His uncle, Midin Radin, witnessed the incident and informed the Sungai Plaie village chief.
Following the recovery, the search and rescue operation was called off at 4am today. - October 28, 2026
