Ravens make two kinds of brutal NFL history with horrible second-half problems originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Baltimore Ravens are 4-3 in the regular season, which isn't bad considering they've been without Lamar Jackson for a couple of weeks now.
But the team's Week 7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals was a brutal one that deserves some flak. The final score of 35-13 is bad enough, but the context of that score is made so much worse: they had a 13-0 lead at halftime.
ESPN's Ben Baby and The Ringer's Sheil Kapadia shared two brutal NFL history-making statistics from this loss that highlight just how terrible this team has been in the second half of games this season.
Ravens have a major second-half problem amid two brutal feats of NFL history
"The Ravens rank 1st in the NFL with a +65 point differential in the first half. The Ravens rank 32nd in the NFL with a -70 point differential in the second half," Kapadia shared.
Those statistics from the 2026 NFL season show just how bad this Ravens team has been in the second half of games this year.
While they get out to strong starts, they've been thoroughly outscored in the second half of games this season. The worst such game just happened, with the Ravens' blown 13-point lead to the Bengals being an all-time terrible one.
As Baby notes, "Per ESPN Research, the Ravens are the 3rd team in NFL history to lose a game by 20+ points after leading by 13+ points at halftime. Other two times it happened: 1950 and 1941."

What Ravens fans just witnessed in Week 7 with the team's massive loss to the Bengals was something that the NFL hasn't seen in roughly 75 years.
Tyler Huntley and this Ravens offense hit a blockade in this game and didn't come even remotely close to making this a competitive game before it was over, despite holding a 13-point lead at halftime.
This isn't just a one-off issue either, as Kapadia's statistics show this has been a problem all year for the Ravens. They continue to thrive in first halves but collapse in the second half.
If the Ravens want any chance of contending this year, this problem has to be fixed, and soon. Jackson's return could help, but facing the Buffalo Bills in Week 8, the Ravens might be in serious trouble with this major second-half problem.
