NEW DELHI, October 27. /TASS/. BRICS parliamentarians are calling for the removal of unilateral economic sanctions, as such measures undermine international law, according to a joint statement approved at the 12th BRICS International Parliamentary Forum.
"We condemn the use of unilateral coercive measures that are contrary to international law and reiterate that such measures, particularly in the form of unilateral economic sanctions and secondary sanctions, have wide-ranging adverse effects on human rights, including the right to development, as well as the health and food security of people in the countries concerned. We call for the removal of such unlawful measures, which undermine international law and the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter," the document says. TASS has obtained a copy of the statement.
BRICS parliamentarians also firmly denounce all violations of international humanitarian law, including deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, including on the territories of member states. They also denounce the denial of humanitarian access and attacks on humanitarian personnel. "We stress the need to ensure accountability for all violations of international humanitarian law," the joint statement says.
