The celebrated worship artist recently announced a seven-session programme titled "Becoming A Wife Masterclass - A Guide to Biblical Marriage," slated to run from November 21 to December 12, 2026, with registration already open.
The announcement drew both enthusiasm and sharp pushback online, with critics arguing that teaching women how to "become a wife" was regressive and unnecessary.
How Mercy Masika chose to respond
Rather than issuing a lengthy statement or hitting back at detractors, Mercy Masika took a quieter approach. She reshared a post by Instagram user @jasminekariuki_ onto her Stories, a move widely interpreted as her way of expressing solidarity with the view without wading directly into the argument.
The fan's post took on the critics head-on, writing:
"I have chosen violence and probably being cancelled by my 2 followers but ey.. I have so much to say about the reactions to this. But my question is, why does the desire for someone to become a wife and or to teach and be taught to become a wife bother y'all that much?? No.. Really. Why? Does the institution of marriage represent so much negativity to us that we feel this is some sort of oppression or time wastage? Let the women who want to be wives, be wives. Let them honor, love and submit to their husbands. Let them be taught to do so. It may not be your cup of tea, the masterclass may not be for you, but it is what someone else needs. eiiy jamenii! Let @mercymasikamuguro teach what she knows!"
Supporters rally behind the course
Mercy Masika's decision to reshare the post rather than engage critics directly appears deliberate. Her supporters have since argued that the masterclass is entirely voluntary and rooted in faith, designed for women who wish to explore biblical principles of marriage, not a prescription for all women.
The gospel star, who is married to Pastor David Muguro, has long been vocal about Christian family values and marriage from a faith-based perspective.
She is yet to publish a detailed public statement addressing the controversy, but the reshared post signals clearly that she has no intention of cancelling or scaling back the course.
Did Janet Mbugua support Masika?
We also highlighted facts about Janet Mbugua’s criticism of Masika’s planned marriage masterclass and the concerns she raised about its message.
Her remarks prompted questions about why women are often expected to carry the burden of sustaining marriages, especially as Kenya grapples with femicide and gender-based violence.
