PASIR MAS: The Kelantan Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) has handed over four of the 12 General Operations Force (GOF) control posts constructed under Phase One of the Sungai Golok Integrated River Basin Development Project (PLSB), which began in 2018.
Kelantan DID director Datuk Dr Siti Fairus Zakaria said the two most recent facilities handed over were the Kaloi and Wakaf Zin control posts in Pasir Mas, which were completed on July 12.
She said two other facilities, the Pok Teh Kana and Pak Atah control posts, were handed over to the GOF in September last year.
"The control posts were built to provide GOF personnel with more comfortable, safe and systematic facilities to carry out border security and monitoring duties in Kaloi and Wakaf Zin.
"It is hoped that these facilities will strengthen monitoring and control along Sungai Golok while supporting the government's efforts to safeguard national security and sovereignty," she said at the handover ceremony for the Kaloi Control Post today.
Siti Fairus said the handover of the remaining eight control posts was expected to complete the network of GOF operational facilities in the border areas.
She said the 12 control posts were built at a total cost of about RM9 million, or around RM800,000 each.
She said the development of the facilities also supported an integrated river basin management approach encompassing river management, flood control and border security.
"Hopefully, the control posts will contribute to stronger border security while safeguarding the well-being of the local community," she said.
