The animosity between Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum and Philadelphia 76ers guard Jaylen Brown has spilled over publicly. Tatum has tried to be diplomatic, but Brown wants none of it, even sending a warning to his former teammate.
On Monday, former Celtics forward Brian Scalabrine added fuel to the fire, claiming that Brown issued a trade demand in the offseason.
“My understanding is that Jaylen Brown went to the organization and had a list of demands, and it was like, ‘You either do this or you trade me.’ He was rooting to get traded to Milwaukee (Bucks),” said Scalabrine.

But just a few hours later, as ClutchPoints reporter Brett Siegel noted, Scalabrine walked back his comments after they gained traction on social media. He clarified them before the tip-off between the Celtics and the Chicago Bulls at TD Garden.
“To be fair, after the 48 calls I fielded today, and I listened, he technically—technically—didn’t demand to be traded,” said Scalabrine.
“I just summed it all up. I summed up the entire word salad and kept it simple, but I think that’s what kind of got me in trouble.”
Pretty insane to say the things said today, and then immediately backtrack hours later and claim something else might have happened instead. https://t.co/BVC1OAOIjf

He acknowledged that he should have understood the nuances, admitting that he was not aware of the “full reality of it.”
“I have no idea. I don’t know what the ultimatum was or the demands or whatever it was,” added Scalabrine, who won a ring with the Celtics in 2008.
“I didn’t get to the bottom of all of that. I didn’t even know that this was gonna be a thing. It’s one of those things that lived in my mind for months. I finally used it because we’re talking about the weirdest stuff, and now, it’s out there.”
Boston sent Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks.
It came as a shock, especially since Brown carried the Celtics to the playoffs despite Tatum missing a big chunk of the season due to his Achilles injury.
