The Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) Tuesday dissociated itself from a viral video showing some individuals described as aides of the group allegedly saying they would kill non-Muslims in Plateau and Enugu states if given AK-47 rifles.
The video, which circulated on social media, Monday, has drawn widespread condemnation, with many Nigerians calling for the arrest of the individuals involved.
However, JIBWIS said it would not support any call capable of disrupting peace in the country, warning that comments advocating violence could incite unrest.
The group also stated that anyone making such comments in its name would be acting at their own peril and would not be accepted by the organisation.
In a statement issued at the group’s headquarters in Jos Tuesday, its national publicity secretary, Sheikh Ahmad Muhammad Ashiru, said although the authenticity of the video had yet to be established, JIBWIS would not support calls to attack or kill anyone.
“JIBWIS under the leadership of Ash-Sheikh Muhammad Sani Yahaya Jingir denounces call to violence under any guise, especially now that households are trying to endure the pains of insecurity in form of banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, Bokko Haram in the North west, North central, North east and other parts of the country,” he said.
The group called on security agencies to investigate the video urgently and ensure that anyone found culpable was dealt with in accordance with the law.
