Pigs in blankets are one of the most important parts of a Christmas dinner. In fact, they're so beloved that supermarkets and butchers are increasingly finding new ways to reinvent the humble bacon-wrapped sausage, from giant foot-long versions to double-wrapped creations.
But when it comes to the Christmas side, it seems it's hard to beat a classic. For the second year running, the Good Housekeeping Institute has crowned Aldi's Specially Selected Double Wrapped Pigs in Blankets the best pigs in blankets of 2026, scoring an impressive 88/100 in our annual Christmas Taste Test.
The GHI team tasted 26 different varieties this year, ranging from traditional chipolatas to more adventurous versions flavoured with Old English seasoning and hot honey, as well as sausages made with wagyu, 'nduja and chorizo. They were cooked according to their packet instructions and served blind to a panel of consumers, who assessed the sausage meat and bacon for flavour, seasoning and texture.
Aldi's winning pigs in blankets stood out for their juicy pork sausages, salty smoked bacon and well-balanced herby seasoning. The sausages are wrapped in not one, but two layers of bacon, giving them an extra-indulgent finish that our testers clearly couldn't resist. One tester called them "absolutely fantastic".

They cost £2.69 for 250g, and are a seriously tempting option if you're feeding a crowd. And if you've never tried a double-wrapped pig in blanket before, our testers have a warning: "Once you've tasted a double-wrapped PIB, it's hard to go back."
They're available from Aldi now, so we'd suggest picking up a few packs now and freezing them for when you need them on the big day. After all, if these have managed to win the GHI's top spot two years running, they're clearly doing something right.
