NEW YORK — Anthropic, the developer of the Claude artificial intelligence model, is seeking to raise $100 billion (about 135 trillion won) at a valuation of up to $2 trillion (about 2,700 trillion won), which would be the largest ever for a global initial public offering.
The Wall Street Journal reported on the 26th that Anthropic, which filed a registration statement known as an S-1 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that day for a Nasdaq listing, is targeting the $100 billion raise at a valuation of as much as $2 trillion. That would surpass the $1.77 trillion valuation and $86 billion in proceeds that SpaceX recorded when it listed on the Nasdaq on June 12 this year.
A U.S. listing would make Anthropic the first AI model developer to go public. Wall Street sees a strong chance that Anthropic will begin trading on the Nasdaq around the middle of next month, between the U.S. midterm elections on the 3rd and Thanksgiving on the 26th. In the filing, Anthropic described the benefits of AI, including productivity gains it projects will reach $22.5 trillion by 2031 and support for treating rare diseases, while also detailing risks such as warnings that AI could lead to human extinction, friction with the administration of Donald Trump, bottlenecks in the semiconductor supply chain and slowing earnings growth.
