New York Giants RB Cam Skattebo was on the receiving end of a contentious call by the NFL officials that he and fans had a problem with.
The Giants picked up an OT 27-21 win over the Houston Texans to continue building on their strong start to the season, now holding a 4-2-1 season record so far.
The win did not help Skattebo’s mood, who was called for unnecessary roughness for a hard truck stick on Texans safety M.J. Stewart in the first quarter in a play that upset many.
Cam Skattebo’s unnecessary roughness penalty had fans stunned
The unnecessary roughness penalty had fans fuming, criticising the NFL for going soft over the years, as a running back is expected to go through defenders with contact.
“The NFL has gotten soft!” complained one fan.
“?? is this not the literal job description of a running back?” said a fan, wondering why a call like this would be made on a running back.
“I know I say this every week but this time I really meant it. This is the worst call in NFL history,” said one fan with a grandiose statement.
“This is one of the worst calls in NFL history and I say that with no hyperbole,” echoed another fan.
“Football is cooked…..I can’t believe it’s illegal to run someone over,” said another fan in shock.
Cam Skattebo complains about penalty after the Giants win
Skattebo had a phenomenal game, registering 17 carries for a season-high 124 yards and one touchdown. However, he still had bad feelings about the penalty call after the game.
“The NFL loves to post me when I do stuff like that but then also wants to take stuff from me. I’m going to run the ball like I want to run the ball. If I’m going to continue to get flags for it or fined for it, I guess I’m going to play for free.”
This was a big bounce-back game for Skattebo, who was iced out of the Giants’ offence last game by coach John Harbaugh for mistakes earlier in the season. He looks motivated and ready to compete, but ended the game with a hamstring injury and a questionable listing going forward.
