(ANSA) - ROME, 26 OTT - The right to food is one of the most effective investments in peace, Maurizio Martina, the deputy director-deneral of the Rome-based Food and Agriculture Organization (Fao) said during the Monday meeting "Unarmed and Disarming Peace" promoted by the Community of Sant'Egidio in Assisi.
"While not a security organization in the traditional sense, FSO works every day on the underlying determinants of stability. It does so by supporting food production, protecting livelihoods, strengthening climate resilience and promoting the equitable and sustainable management of natural resources. There can be no lasting peace where hunger, exclusion and extreme vulnerability persist. For this reason, realizing the right to food is not only a moral imperative or a development objective. It is one of the most effective investments in peace that the international community can make. Ultimately, the most authentic form of "Unarmed and Disarming Peace" is the one built by ensuring that people have access to food, resources, opportunities and hope".
