Kathmandu, October 26
Chicken prices have fallen in Kathmandu following the conclusion of Dashain.
The National Chicken Sales Business Association has reduced the prices of both live chicken and dressed chicken, with the new rates coming into effect from Monday.
According to the association, the price of live chicken has decreased by Rs 10 per kilogram. Previously sold at Rs 290 per kilogram before Dashain, live chicken will now cost Rs 280 per kilogram.
Similarly, the price of dressed chicken has dropped by Rs 15 per kilogram. The association has set the new price at Rs 385 per kilogram, down from the previous rate of Rs 400.
The decline in meat consumption in the market has been cited as the main reason for the price reduction. According to the association, goat meat is consumed more than chicken during Dashain.
In addition, most people who left the Kathmandu Valley to celebrate the festival elsewhere have yet to return. The reduced population in the Valley has lowered overall demand for and consumption of meat, prompting the association to adjust prices downward, it said.
