Trip to Bregenz on Wednesday
The Round of 16 of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup is just around the corner. Tomorrow evening, our boys will visit SW Bregenz. The match kicks off at 18:00 CET under the lights at the ImmoAgentur Stadion, marking the start of our week in Vorarlberg. Achim Untergasser will referee the encounter.
Following their cup away matches in Oberwart and St. Pölten, our Red Bulls are now heading to Lake Constance. Thanks to a strategic partnership with Tochigi City, the hosts have a Japanese flavour - alongside Portuguese, English and German. Eleven different nationalities are represented in the newly assembled squad of the second-division side, who are coached the Uruguayan Martin Brenner. Assistant coach Joshua Schirmer also serves as an interpreter - after all, the man from Honolulu its speaks six languages. Despite the communication challenges, this diverse side seems to have found a rhythm quickly - the side that finished at the bottom of the table last season now finds itself in the middle of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga standings.
One thing that has distinguished the Black and Whites in recent seasons is their knack for pulling off cup upsets - for instance, they eliminated GAK in the Round of 16 in 2024/25. Last season, the side from western Austria was only defeated by SV Ried in extra-time. Our only previous cup encounter was not so dramatic: during our 2020/21 cup-winning run, we dispatched the Bregenz side 10-0.
Can we make it through to the next stage of the cup this season? The game be featured as part of a conference broadcast on ORF 1, and can be watched in its entirety on ORF ON and ÖFB TV. The quarter-finalists will be determined on Sunday, following the Vienna derby, on ORF 1 (at approximately 19:00).

We will certainly need another focused performance. Bregenz will be opponents determined to trip us up in the cup - we are fully aware of that. We want to carry the momentum from the LASK match into Wednesday and advance to the next round with a concentrated effort.

We will give everything to reach the quarter-finals, which means we need to be focused and determined right from the start. Bregenz definitely won’t make it easy for us. We want to dictate the pace of the game, create good opportunities, and take them decisively.
