Aussie electronic acts LUUDE and Hermitude will lead entertainment at SNACK NYE this summer as the Claremont Showgrounds festival returns to ring in the new year with six stages and one mega surprise.
Among supports will be Choomba, Stace Cadet, Curdin, Sammythesinner, Gouldy, Shann and Stayseif, and Tashnat, while audiences will also be treated to a worldwide exclusive of One More Time Again.. — a tribute act playing music crafted by Daft Punk and Fred again...
With Perth’s homegrown festival enjoying crowds in excess of 20,000 in recent years, festival organisers have raised the stakes with a mega 1800sqm stage inspired by Greece’s Acropolis.
At five stories high, 60 metres deep and 30 metres wide, the monolithic structure is unlike any traditional stage and has been designed to envelope festival goers in one immersive light and sound zone.
SNACK founder and festival director Aedan Buckley took inspiration for the set up from larger-than-life European festival concepts.
“People won’t simply be looking at a stage. The stage will be all around them,” Mr Buckley said.
“The lights and sound won’t just be in front of you; they’ll be beside you and behind you as well. We’ll have lights rigged across all of the columns so the whole structure feels like it can dance.”
Aptly labelled the Acropolis, it’s unlikely such a structure will be recreated in future years due to its scale and cost of production, Mr Buckley said.
Several returning precincts have been reworked, including the Amsterdam-inspired Red Light District which sees dancers, lasers, and interactive windows beckon to guests.
Sin City’s signature chaos and showgirls will also be reprised, along with the Club Smirnoff Silent Disco and Tattoo parlour.
Jumping on the western trend, SNACK has added Casamigos Country Club to the mix, promising country tunes, line dancing and more.
While carnival rides, food trucks, roaming entertainment and fireworks will send the year off with a bang.
Mr Buckley said his focus has been on delivering novel experiences to Perth festival goers, and hopes SNACK’s upcoming iteration proves popular.
“We’ve really leaned into creating immersive worlds rather than simply trying to stack the bill with as many different acts as possible. Our point of difference is creating a complete atmosphere and giving people a moment they can’t experience anywhere else,” he said.
“Seeing an artist play at SNACK combines what their gift is with what our gift is, and we hope those two things together create a pretty special moment.”
In an effort to offer an affordable experience, the festival has reverted to 2023 ticket prices despite rising operating costs.
“New Year’s Eve is something you spend with your mates. If you’re the person trying to convince the group to come to SNACK, we want the price to make that decision easier, not be the reason someone has to miss out,” Mr Buckley said.
