There’s a showdown looming on the Emmerdale horizon between the Dingles and the Sugdens.
Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) has a massive issue with the Sugdens; she’s jealous that Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) has turned to them for support and left her out in the cold. Of course, it doesn’t matter that she deserves it.
Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) isn’t someone she wants Sarah spending time with for more than one reason – he’s become a bit of a slimy toad, having conned grieving widow Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) out of her husband’s money, and cheated £100k out of an honest poker game.
When the opportunity arose for her to get one up on Robert by stealing his poker winnings, she took it.
But then she was left with the awkwardness of trying to give the money back. She chose the route of pretending to be the saviour, claiming to have wrestled the money off the thieving window cleaner. Sarah saw right through the lie, and it drove an even bigger wedge between them. So, Charity hates Robert even more now, having herself pushed Sarah right into his fold.
Charity might not have to wait long for another chance to bring Robert down.
Robert has bought the Hide and has little to no money to actually make a huge go of the place – Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) managed to get one over on him after he cheated her on the sale by stripping the place of all its equipment – so to get the place going, Robert needs a ready and reliable chef to walk in and get set up.
He has his sights set on Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock), who’s been at the Woolpack since the dawn of time, and he offers him creative freedom and a decent chunk of change to do the swap.
Marlon is honest with Charity about this opportunity – they are few and far between in the Dales – and Charity is quick to remind Marlon of his loyalties.
But there’s no denying a bigger pay check would make life more comfortable, and when Robert sells him on being the culinary visionary for the place, he almost bites his hand off.
He tells Robert his price for switching loyalties, and Robert agrees it, much to Aaron’s (Danny Miller) chagrin. He’s quickly learning his partner is no Martin Lewis when it comes to looking after the pennies.
Marlon is out of the Woolpack and in at the Hide. Charity is disgusted to learn it’s not just Marlon, it’s Mary who’s also been poached as they both hand in their notices.
She publicly turns on the pair making it well known how appalled she is at their behaviour. Then she turns to Robert and Aaron and kicks them out of the Woolly. Barred for good.
But while Robert walks away rubbing his hands with glee, he’s incited war. What’s Charity got up her sleeve?
