The Kebbi State Head of Service, Malami Shekare, has warned civil servants against habitual lateness to work, threatening disciplinary sanctions against workers who violate official working hours.
Shekare issued the warning on Monday during a monitoring exercise at the Kebbi State Secretariat in Birnin Kebbi, where he inspected workers’ arrival times alongside some permanent secretaries.
He expressed displeasure over the failure of some civil servants, including senior officers, to report to work at the stipulated time.
The Head of Service stressed that punctuality was a fundamental obligation for every public servant, irrespective of rank or position.
He said the state government would no longer tolerate indiscipline and negligence capable of undermining productivity and effective service delivery.
“Adherence to official working hours is a fundamental obligation of every public servant, regardless of rank or position,” he said.
According to him, lateness undermines productivity, weakens institutional discipline and negatively affects the timely delivery of government services.
Shekare noted that the civil service played a strategic role in implementing government policies and programmes, adding that workers must demonstrate professionalism, dedication and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
He warned that the government would not condone any act of indiscipline that could compromise the efficiency and effectiveness of the state civil service.
“The monitoring exercise is not merely a routine activity but part of a deliberate effort to restore and sustain discipline, strengthen accountability and ensure that public servants give their best in serving the people of Kebbi State,” he said.
The Head of Service urged workers to take the warning seriously and comply strictly with established working hours and public service regulations.
He emphasised that no officer would be exempted from disciplinary measures on account of seniority or position.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, the exercise was part of the administration of Governor Nasir Idris’s efforts to build a disciplined, responsive and results-oriented civil service.
The statement added that the state government remained committed to promoting punctuality, professionalism and effective service delivery across the public service.
