The Punjab government has yet to release its ranking of the province’s top 10 universities under a performance-based evaluation initiative announced last year.
The initiative aimed to evaluate more than 60 universities across Punjab and identify the 10 best-performing institutions.
According to sources at the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), the project was estimated to cost Rs. 50 million. The rankings were expected to be updated annually, with the results influencing future funding allocations and policy decisions.
A professor said the provincial government appeared reluctant to release the rankings, including university scores, evaluation criteria and the names of the top 10 institutions.
The ranking initiative is separate from PHEC’s efforts to introduce measurable performance indicators for university vice chancellors (VCs).
Last year, the commission approved key performance indicators (KPIs) for the heads of public sector universities, taking into account differences in the age and size of institutions.
The framework aims to evaluate university leadership based on measurable academic and administrative performance.
The assessment covers research output, teaching standards, faculty development, student performance, financial management, governance and progress on development plans.
