The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old woman, Fatima Dalha, for allegedly stabbing her 30-year-old husband in the stomach during a domestic dispute over money and personal belongings in Dass Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred at about 6am on Sunday, October 25, 2026, in Lirr Bajar, where the couple reportedly engaged in an argument over money, clothing wrappers and a mobile phone the woman claimed were in her husband’s possession. Blueprint reports
The police said the disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, during which Dalha allegedly picked up a nearby knife and stabbed her husband in the stomach.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed the incident in a statement, adding that the injured man was rushed to a hospital by police operatives and remained under medical treatment.
Police rescue suspect from angry mob
According to Habib, officers attached to the Dass Divisional Police Headquarters responded to the incident and rescued the suspect from an angry crowd that had gathered at the scene and threatened to lynch her.
The police spokesperson said officers intervened to prevent the crowd from taking the law into its own hands while ensuring that the injured man received urgent medical attention.
The suspect has been detained, while the knife allegedly used in the attack has been recovered by the police.
Habib added that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet investigation.
The police have yet to announce the outcome of the investigation or any formal charge against the suspect.
The circumstances surrounding the dispute, including the ownership of the items reportedly at its centre, are expected to form part of the investigation.
Couple married for only a few months
The police spokesperson disclosed that the couple had been married for only a few months before the incident.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed concern over domestic violence involving young couples and urged spouses to adopt peaceful means of resolving disagreements.
He advised couples to seek intervention through family members, community elders and lawful channels rather than allowing disputes to escalate into physical violence.
“A moment of anger can destroy two lives forever,” the commissioner warned, according to the police statement.
Aliyu also cautioned residents against jungle justice, stressing that allegations of criminal conduct must be handled by the appropriate authorities.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that the case was investigated professionally and humanely.
Incident follows another domestic violence case in Bauchi
The latest incident comes weeks after the police reported a separate fatal domestic incident in Bauchi State involving two co-wives.
In that case, the command arrested a 33-year-old woman, Hauwa’u Haruna, over the alleged killing of her co-wife, 43-year-old Jamila Adamu, at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi on September 27, 2026.
Police said preliminary findings indicated that the suspect allegedly struck the deceased on the forehead with a pestle during a domestic altercation. The victim was subsequently pronounced dead at a hospital, while the suspect was arrested and the case referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
The two incidents are separate, and there is no established connection between them. However, both have drawn attention to the consequences of domestic disputes escalating into violence.
The police have continued to urge residents to seek peaceful ways of resolving disagreements and to report incidents to the appropriate authorities.
In the latest case, investigators are expected to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged stabbing, while the injured man continues to receive medical care.
The command has also warned members of the public against mob action, emphasising that the suspect must be allowed to face the legal process rather than be subjected to violence.
