One of his fellow officers immediately moved to lift his legs, a basic first-aid response, as three other individuals, apparently relatives of the deceased, stepped in to assist.
Remarkably, the remaining officers held their positions throughout, rifles in hand, maintaining military discipline even as chaos unfolded around them.
Mourners watching the scene reacted with visible shock, and voices could be heard in Kiswahili expressing concern and confusion about what had happened to the officer.
What Netizens Said About the Incident
The video drew significant attention online, with many commenters speculating about the likely cause of the collapse.
Injendi wa Injendi wrote:
"Na utakuta hata maji hakunywa since morning, the place looks so dry and sunny! Na may I ask the fellow officers hawafai kumind ama!"
John Chege offered a more clinical explanation:
"The Last Post needs maximum lung pressure and a long breath-hold, which puts huge strain on the heart and brain. Combined with the heat we're experiencing RN, fatigue and possibly dehydration must have contributed to the brass player collapsing."
Captain Mo questioned the response from the other officers on duty:
"So the other officers won't even blink when their partner is dying? Kwani hizi sheria husema nini jamani?"
Afterall added:
"Even blowing that instrument takes a lot. If he had not been playing that instrument frequently, top up with the heat stroke, he was out of air."
The condition of the officer following the incident was not immediately clear, but the footage has reignited conversation about the welfare of police personnel during demanding ceremonial duties, particularly in harsh weather conditions.
